Historie

Daishoji Temple has a rank of Special Head temple of Shingon Buddhism Sect (Shingon syu Bekkaku Honzan, a temple of direct connection to Saga Gosho- Imperial Palace /Daikakuji. Japanese tytle of this temple is Mitera (Imperial Temple). (Normal temple is called Tera or Otera, but combination with name is --name of temple + ji (Daisho-ji).) The temple was build in 739, 1260 years ago, by the direct command of Shomu Tenno (Emperor Shomu), Since then the temple became holy center of mountain Buddhism and Honbu Dojo for Shingon Mikkyo - Secret Doctrine. In this period, there were more than 2000 monks and priests training at the Daishoji Monastery. But around 1578, the war period of Japan, because of several fires, original buildings were completely burnt down. So, Lord Mori Sadamasa reconstructed the present buildings in the period of 1604 - 1606.

Shingon Sect:

A Japanese Buddhism, Shingon Sect was founded by Kukai (called also St. K·b·. Kooboo Daishi, the great teacher, 776-835), before this Heian period (794-1185), Buddhism were Chinese style and Indian style- called Nara period of Buddhism (710-784).

One can reach Buddha (Jobutsu) if one does three things:

1. IN: Hand posture (Tight your hands in special Shingon IN-position)
2. Mantra: Your mouth repeat Shingon Mantra.
3. Mind: Be a mind of Buddha and practice his teaching

Shin means Truth.Gon means words, mantra or what you say. Shingon has 14 million diciples and 12000 temples in Japan. Daishoji / Daikakuji sect have more than 2000 temples. National treasure: Many paintings and Buddha figures are registered as unique national treasures, and some are not allowed to show to the public. Location: Daishoji Temple is located in Mimasaka, between Hyogo and Okayama. At the top of Eryusan (wise dragon mountain 400 meter) National Park. Musashi and temple:

Musashi Miyamoto was born on 12th March 1584 in Miyamoto, Mimasaka - a few miles from the temple. After his parent's death, age of 7, was adopted by an uncle, a priest of the temple. At the age of 13, he fought against Kihei Arima, whose sword style was called Shinto Ryu. From then on, he fought over sixteen duels but he was never defeated. "Musashi and Niten -. A sword-man and an artist" is certainly the same person. (Musashi Museum : location 94 Miyamoto, Ohara, Okayama). Around 1920, a famous novel writer Mr. Eiji Yoshikawa had spent several years staying at the temple and wrote a novel "Musashi Miyamoto". You can read the English translation by Charles S. Terry "The Best Scenes from MUSASHI". You can also read A book of Five Rings: Gorin no Sho written by Musashi, translated in many languages.

When visitors approach the temple gate, they see two huge Gingko trees. Most of them say "Two poles rise from the ground and become one huge tree. This must be the feeling of the Niten Ichi Ryu of Musashi". This means Two naturs/two arts become one style in the sky . Musashi taught / teaches us 1+1=1 I hope you understand.

Musashi Kiln:

A very famous ceramic of Bizen-yaki, Work shops are located in the Daishoji Temple and in Versailles Palace in France. The Pottary Master is Priest Daiei Fukudenji 57nd Generation successor of Imperial temple, and a brother to Soke Yamaue.

Ikebana:

Saga Go-ryu flower arranging school. Jushoku (head of the temple) is a professor of Ikebana of Saga Imperial Palace and teaches also in Versailles Palace only for Royal families.
